Those looking for a relaxing evening with friends that involves some creative gardening may be interested in Plant Nite Akron, scheduled to open Jan. 23 at 393 Pauline Ave. in Ellet.
A crafting, painting and creative enthusiast, Owner Rita Hunt has many years experience in customer service work. Most recently, she's worked for Speelman Electric Inc. in Tallmadge.
"I love the community," says Hunt. "As a new entrepreneur, I've decided to take on a new venture with Plant Nite and introduce it into the Tallmadge area."
According to the website, Plant Nite was borne out of the success of Paint Nite, where local artists are invited to team up with popular bars and restaurants to offer customers the opportunity to get artistic while they get social.
Creators Dan Hermann and Sean McGrail describe Plant Nite as "... awesome social, often rowdy, and sometimes cocktail-fueled terrarium-making events at the most popular bars in your neighborhood.
You'll hang out, you'll drink, but you'll also get your hands dirty, because we put succulents, sand and tiny dinos (yup) in the mix to give you an even better reason to leave the house."
As with Paint Nite, reservations are made to attend the event and a fee is involved to cover materials. Hunt says she plans to slowly grow her business in the Akron area by adding new gardeners to host more events.
