Summer Hours -- Starting May 1, the Tallmadge Recreation Center will shift to its summer hours:

Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Friday, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Indoor Yard Sale -- May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Have some things to get rid of after spring cleaning? Why not make some money by selling unwanted items at the TRC's indoor yard sale? It's indoors, so there's no concern about weather. Sellers may rent a space and take their own tables or may rent tables from theTRC. The fee is $15 for a 10-foot by 10-foot selling space and $24 for a double space. The cost to rent an 8-foot table is $8. No charge to browse. Register to be a seller by May 15.

Fourth Annual Food Truck Festival -- The Tallmadge Food Truck Festival is back again this year on May 21 from noon to 6 p.m. in the TRC Parking lot. Enjoy live music, kids' games and crafts and 29 different food trucks. Admission is free -- just pay for the food.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Home School Open Gym program -- The TRC will host home school open gyms for all home school students ages 5 through 17 on Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run March 30 through May 18. Kids will participate in a variety of individual and team-based sports and physical activities. Weekly classes will feature a warm up, stretch and exercise segment, 1 mile and ° mile timed run, fun sports and a cool down at the end. Punch passes are available and drop ins welcome. No pre-registration required and students may come as often as they choose. Parents can choose to "pay and play" or pay to workout on their own. Indoor playground area for parents to supervise siblings who are too young to participate. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. The upcoming schedule is listed below:

April 20: Kickball/Fire & Ice

Spring Youth Golf Workshop -- Beginner, novice and advanced junior golfers ages 6 through 15 are invited to participate in this three-day workshop focusing on swing fundamentals, short game, putting, rules and etiquette. Saturdays, May 6 through 20 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 1. Location: Edwin Shaw Challenge Golf Course, 1596 Flickinger Road, Akron.

An Evening of Minecraft -- May 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.. Boys and girls ages 5 through 12 will build, create and use their imagination with a Minecraft theme. Participants will enjoy hands-on games, create Minecraft swords and more. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 10.

Kids' Night IN Parents' Night Out -- May 19 from 5 to 10 p.m.. Kids ages 5 through 10 can enjoy a night of fun-filled activities while their parents enjoy an evening out. TRC staff will keep kids busy with crafts, games, pizza and playground time in a fun, safe atmosphere. Cost is $10 for residents and $14 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 8.

Star Wars Day -- May 20 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Jedi Knights and Storm troopers ages 5 through 12 can go to the TRC and learn to battle Star Wars style. Boys, girls and droids will make their own light sabers, learn to battle and have some out of this world fun. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 15.

Youth Theater Day Camp -- Camp is held at the TRC Tuesday through Friday, May 30 through June 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children in grades 1 through 6. This camp offers a fun introduction to theater. All campers will act, sing and dance in a variety show for family and friends on the last day of camp. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 22.

Youth Magic Day Camp -- Join "The Great Brad," a professional magician as he introduces campers in grades 1 through 6 to the wonderful world of magic. Camp is held at the TRC May 30 through June 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. Each camper will perform a spectacular magic show for family and friends on the last day of camp. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Registration deadline is May 22.

Youth Flag Football -- Children in kindergarten through fourth grade will have a blast learning the basics of football. Players are grouped by age, coached at their level of understanding, and play fun, low competition games under adult supervision. Parent coaches can assist in the instruction and will call the plays for their teams, but having TRC coaches lead the program will ensure that all teams receive the same instruction in a planned and organized practice. Jump Start Sports staff will also officiate and supervise all games to ensure equal playing time, a rotation of players in various positions, and will help teach players within the context of the game. Indoor turf shoes or tennis shoes must be worn. No cleats will be permitted. The season runs April 23 through June 11 (no class May 21 or 28) from noon to 1:15 p.m. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Registration deadline: April 17.

Hummingbirds Soccer -- Children ages 3 through 6 will learn the basic fundamentals of soccer, such as dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, and positioning. Each class day will include an instruction on each aspect of the game, participation in fun drills designed to teach skills and low-key, non-competitive games. Parents may assist in coaching but Jump Start staff coaches will run the program. Indoor turf shoes or tennis shoes must be worn. No cleats will be permitted. The season runs from April 23 through June 11 (no class May 21 or 28) from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 3-4 and 2:30 to 3:30 pm for ages 5-6. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Registration deadline: April 17.

Nerf Wars -- April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Children ages 8 through 12 can take their Nerf gun of choice and extra bullets for an evening of target practice, games and snacks. Participants must wear protective eye gear. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Registration deadline: April 18.

Pirates Treasure -- April 21, 1 to 2 p.m. at TRC. Preschool-aged children can enjoy a pirate-themed day with crafts, stories and a treasure hunt. For extra fun, children are encouraged to come dressed as a pirate. Registration deadline: April 14. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents.

Fill a Frog -- April 22 at 1 p.m. Children ages 5 through 11 can build and fill their own frog. Each lovable creation will have its own heart and birth certificate. Children can also play games and have snacks. Registration deadline: April 19. Cost is $12 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

ADULT PROGRAMS

T-Shirt Quilt Sewing Class -- April 24 through May 22, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at TRC. Preserve memories with a T-shirt quilt. Concerts, sports, traveling, school events -- it's a fun way to create a keepsake to last a lifetime. Perfect for graduation gifts, too. Those who would feel more comfortable working on their own sewing machines are invited to take them to class. Registration deadline: April 17. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Parent Child Paint Class -- May 6, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Parents are invited to spend a few hours getting creative with their child. Connie Kramer of Art Break will provide step-by-step instructions so each parent and child pair can follow along and make the same painting together. Participants must be at least 6 years of age. All materials will be provided and cookies will be served. Cost is $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Registration Deadline May 1.
