Tallmadge -- On Feb. 1, the manager of a Southeast Avenue business told police a customer rented a $1,496 jackhammer Dec. 31 and has not returned the item. According to the report, when contacted by the store manager, the suspect said the jackhammer had been stolen and that he filled out a report with the Springfield Police Department. Tallmadge officers checked with Springfield and discovered no report had been filed. A complaint for theft has been issued. Theft Feb. 1. Prescription forms removed from unlocked vehicle: A North Thomas Road woman told police sometime between 8 and 9 a.m., someone removed three prescription forms for medications from her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the apartment complex lot. Jan. 31. Clothes, purses taken from unlocked vehicle: A Martindale Drive woman told police sometime between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m., someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked outside her residence, ransacked the interior and removed a black bag containing clothes valued at $100, a $20 blue purse, a $20 white purse and various credit and identification cards. Jan. 29. Repeat offender issued summons for theft: Police issued a summons for theft to a 56-year-old Akron woman after the security officer at a South Avenue business told police she saw the woman place a $3 bottle of baby soap in her purse and leave the store without paying for the item. According to the report, the suspect was previously banned from the store for prior thefts. Criminal damage Jan. 28. Mailbox damaged on Northeast Avenue: A Northeast Avenue man told police sometime overnight, a vehicle struck his mailbox and post. Damage was estimated at $100.
