As parents of a child in the KIDS Place Preschool, we received a letter March 9 notifying us the school would not be operating past the current school year.
It stated there was "a critical need for additional space inside the Recreation Center in order to expand our services to our 3,400 members and the general public. This expansion of services is related to health, wellness and recreation, which is our main mission as an organization."
The preschool operates out of one small room and is not being given the chance to relocate to another facility. They say they want to expand their services to their members, but exactly which members would that be?
It seems to us the Community Center would make a better location for a health/wellness clinic than the rec center.
We believe if the city really wanted to better the rec center, it would focus more on families and try to get more families as members. The rec center recently had a "Family Fun Night"and the place was packed. It seemed to be a hit, and yet they only do it once a year.
Yes, there are other preschool programs in Tallmadge, but I'm sure they won't be as great as KIDS Place. It's difficult to trust people with your children and in the two years we have been going to the rec center we have grown fond of the childcare staff and the preschool teachers.
Life is precious and we need to take care of our future. Our future is those adorable little kids who love attending preschool every morning to learn with their wonderful teachers.
