The Tallmadge wrestling team finished seventh with 70 points at a 12-team Division II sectional meet Feb. 20 at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls.

Aurora won the competition with 239 points and Walsh (231) and Chagrin Falls Kenston (227) finished in second and third place, respectively, for the Blue Devils. 

Two Blue Devils, senior Corey Wheeler at 119 pounds and sophomore Riley Midock (112) advanced to districts, which are scheduled to conclude Feb. 27 at Firestone in High School. Results were not available at press time.

The top four performers in each weight class advanced to districts. Wheeler secured third place with a pin in 1 minute, 20 seconds.

Midock captured fourth after losing a 12-2 decision in the consolation final.

Anthony Paonessa (140) and Joe Rodriguez (145) finished fifth and senior Jared Rumbold (189) captured sixth. Paonessa and Rodriguez will be alternates at the district level.

Also competing in their final matches of the season were freshmen Dallas Testa (103), Aaron Dietrich (125) and Jacob Wiegand (171); and sophomores Garrett Chonko (130) and Tyrin Williams (160).

The state tournament is scheduled to take place March 4 through 6 at Value City Arena in Columbus.
