Padmanabha S. Pillai recently died in Trivandrum, India. He was born in Trivandrum to the late Shivashankara Narayanan and the late Pitchammal. He was the first in his family to go to college graduating from University College in Trivandrum and going on to complete a in Master in Physics at Benares Hindu University. He married S. Gowri in 1955 and began a career as a college professor. He came to America in 1963 to continue his education and received his PhD in Physics from West Virginia University in 1966.
He moved to Akron in 1966 to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in their research division. His wife and two children, Kumar and Lekshmi, joined him in November 1966. Another son, Mohan, was born in 1968. The family moved to Tallmadge in 1977, where he and Gowri have lived for 40 years. He retired from Goodyear in 1997 after 31 years of service.
He stayed active in retirement publishing scientific papers, presenting at meetings, attending the Akron Physics Club, helping build the Temple in Northeast Ohio (Shiva-Vishnu Temple), and playing with his grandchildren. In Nov 2015 he and Gowri celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife,Gowri , and their children , Kumar (Sharon), Lekshmi (Ramalingam), and Mohan (Priya), as well as 6 grandchildren, Nithyapriya, Jaya, Divya, Aashna, Nikheil, and Mali. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Good Neighbors, Tallmadge.
