Jack Cooper passed away peacefully on June 19th, 2016 surrounded by family. Jack began his lifetime of service to others as he was born in Akron on December 11th 1931. He graduated from Akron East High School, attended The University of Akron and served in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1964, he moved his family to the City he loved, Tallmadge.
After 30 years of service, Jack retired from The City of Akron, Bureau of Engineering, in 1982. Later, he served as the Director of Public Service for the City of Tallmadge, retired in 2000 and served on numerous committees throughout his lifetime.
He was a key contributor to the foundation of The Tallmadge Little League program, one of the finest programs in the country and was an active member of The Tallmadge United Methodist Church. He was awarded the Tallmadge Citizen of the Year award in 2002 and presented with The Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 for his lifetime of service for the greater good of his community.
Jack loved coaching baseball as he was involved with developing hundreds of young baseball players and making an unforgettable impact on the life of each one of them. His hobbies included golf, woodworking and serving others.
Jack was preceded in death by his Father, Donald Cooper; his Mother, Edna Collura; Step Father, Otto Collura; Brother, Donald Cooper; and his Son, Rick Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, of 65 years; Sons, Michael of Akron; Steve (Jeff) of Ogden, Utah; Donald (Julie) of Cuyahoga Falls; Douglas of Canton; Daughter, Cathy of North Canton; Sisters, Diane Adam (Jim) of Medina; Sharon Sudimak of Medina; Brother, Jay of Medina; 6 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
A memorial service of life was held at The Tallmadge United Methodist Church located at 207 N. Munroe Rd, in Tallmadge at 11:00 on Saturday June 25th with Rev. Dr. Skip Myers officiating.
Family will receive friends immediately following.
