Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona recently took in a Tallmadge Little League 12-and-under game. The Tribe's manager saw Tallmadge defeat Avon 8-7 in district play. An Avon resident, Francona took time to shake hands, sign autographs and take pictures with the boys.

Bridgestone Invitational hosts military events The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational has announced its military events and initiatives for the 2017 event, which is set to return to Firestone Country Club's South Course in Akron Aug. 2 to 6.
Competitive balance is a reality starting this fall for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Count me among those who believe it's not going to matter much -- but I prefer this option than breaking up the OHSAA into separate public and private-school entities.
The Tallmadge United age 11-and-younger girls soccer team recently placed second in its age group and was the runner-up in its postseason tournament.
It was an amazing finish for several athletes during the spring season. For starters, the Tallmadge baseball team captured its first state championship since 2002. Two Lady Blue Devils also represented Tallmadge at the Division I state track and field meet.

Tallmadge resident Clark Schreiber, 67, won the male 65-to-69 age group with a time of 24 minutes, 18 seconds in the Run for the Pierogies race July 1 at the Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus in Parma. He finished 142nd overall.

The Tick Tock Triathlon will take place Aug. 12 at Hudson Park Estates Pool, 2600 Blue Heron Drive. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the ride starts at 9 a.m. It is a Kids Cancer Charity ride benefiting VeloSano at the Cleveland Clinic. Proceeds go to fund research at the Cleveland Clinic.
