Bridgestone Invitational hosts military events

The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational has announced its military events and initiatives for the 2017 event, which is set to return to Firestone Country Club's South Course in Akron Aug. 2 to 6.

As part of Birdies for the Brave, a national military imitative supported by the PGA TOUR, the Bridgestone Invitational will offer all National Guard, active duty, Reserve military members, military retirees and their dependents free admission to the tournament by showing a Department of Defense-issued military ID at the gate, along with a military ticket voucher.

Once on site at the Bridgestone Invitational, all military guests will be treated to complimentary food and beverage and a relaxing venue for viewing all of the tournament action at the United Rentals Birdies for the Brave Patriots' Outpost, presented by Kent State University, a military-exclusive hospitality chalet located adjacent to the 14th green at Firestone Country Club.

The Outpost is scheduled to be open Aug. 3-6 from 11 a.m. until the end of play.

Additionally, the Bridgestone Invitational Military Recognition Ceremony is set to take place Aug. 5 at 9:30 a.m. in the Pennzoil Fan Zone presented by Firestone Complete Auto Care.

Triathlon set

for Aug. 12

The Tick Tock Triathlon will take place Aug. 12 at Hudson Park Estates Pool, 2600 Blue Heron Drive. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the ride starts at 9 a.m. It is a Kids Cancer Charity ride benefiting VeloSano at the Cleveland Clinic.

Proceeds go to fund research at the Cleveland Clinic. Donations can be made on ccf.convio.net/goto/hundsonvelo.

Ohio Bombers hosting tryouts

The Ohio Bombers travel baseball program will its 2017 tryout sessions July 17 and 31 at the Akron Sprinfield JEDD Park, located at 2300 Pickle Road in Akron

On July 23, tryouts for players on the 9-and-under, 11-and-under, 13-and-under, 15-and-under levels and 16-and-under levels will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, while tryouts for players at the 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under and 14-and-under levels will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tryouts for players at the 17-and-under and 18-and-under levels will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

On July 30, tryouts for players on the 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under and 14-and-under levels will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, while tryouts for players at the 9-and-under, 11-and-under, 13-and-under, 15-and-under levels and 16-and-under levels will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tryouts for players at the 17-and-under and 18-and-under levels will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
